Weddings at the River Mill, a truly unique experience.

The River Mill Restaurant originated in 1985 and is situated in the histoic Woolen/Cotton Mill built in 1882 located beside the Cataraqui River. The Woolen Mill was an innovative manufacturer of wool and cotton up until 1966 when it was finally closed. The ancient structure of the Woolen Mill was built to last and due to some refurbishing and ingenious renovations, which enhanced the buildings natural character, this historic building provides a pictesque setting for any event.

The River Mill is the original tenant of the Woolen Mill and maintains the unique structure of the mill. The River Mill with its scenic view, is an attractive space for any wedding ceremony and reception. In addition to the beautiful view, there are walkways along the Cataraqui River and access to the Doug Fluhrer Park where weddings and special events can be performed on along the waterfront with a view of Wolfe Island.

Packages are optional and in our experience charging by consumption rather than a pre-priced package is usually less expensive.

Ceremonies

The River Mill offers attractive alternatives for your Wedding Ceremonies, with seating from 10 to 90 guests.

Indoor Ceremony

  • The Rideau Room which is perfect for small and intimate ceremonies, this charming room holds up to 36 guests seated. (There is no room rental fee for those dining in the Rideau Room)
  • The River Mill main dining room which is situated by the waterfront; this elegant room holds up to 90 guests seated
  • Cocktail and Hors D’ oeuvres only events in the main dining room can hold up to 120 guests
  • Sparkling wine service can also be offer preceding or following the ceremony

Outdoor Ceremony

  • Due to the location of the River Mill, there is plenty of beautiful lush waterfront to accommodate almost any wedding size
  • Furthermore, the River Mill can offer Hors D’ oeuvres service as well as cocktail, sparkling wine service during and after the ceremony

Additional charges will apply to those events which, wish to book the main dining room and Rideau Room as well as any set up required by the River Mill staff for any outdoor ceremony. Also, an additional charge maybe added for those ceremonies performed in the main dining room that require the room to be set for dinner service following the ceremony.

Rentals: The responsibility of renting stereo equipment, projectors, microphones or chair rentals for outdoor ceremonies or any other equipment not available at the River Mill falls upon the bride/groom. The River Mill can aid in securing rental equipment at an additional cost.

Event Pricing

There is no room rental fee for booking your event at the River Mill but a minimum amount the party needs to spend depending upon the day of the week.

To reserve the Main dining room minimum amount required:

Monday–Thursday evenings: $2,500.00

Friday evenings: $3,500.00

Saturday evenings: $5,000.00

Saturday morning/afternoon: $500.00

Sunday evenings: $1000.00

Sunday morning/afternoon: $1000.00

For those events that require both the Main dining room and the Rideau for the entire evening, it’s an addition charge of $1000.00.

To reach the required amount can come from the acclamation of the cost from the bar (cash or open), canapés, wine service and dinner.

These minimum charges do not include HST or gratuity.

Children’s Menu for children less than 12 years of age for $12.00.

Children are welcomed to order from the menu chosen by the bride/groom and priced accordingly or they can order from the list below:

  • Children’s grilled cheese served with garden salad or Caesar salad or french fries.
  • Children’s pasta served with either tomato or cream sauce or butter and parmesan.
  • chicken fingers served with either french fries, a garden salad or Caesar salad.
  • Additional courses (appetizers/desserts) will be priced accordingly.

Booking Procedure

A deposit of $1000.00 is required for confirmation of securing the venue.  Also, a contract between the parties involved must be filled out and signed when the minimum deposit amount has been delivered.  The final guarantee of attendance is required 7 days prior to your event, with seating plan.  Also, seating arrangements maybe edited by the River Mill in order to meet the comfort of all guests.  The method of final payment can be; cheque, cash, debit or credit card (Visa, Master Card or American Express) and must be paid in full at the end of the event unless otherwise stated in the wedding contract.

Parking: Free parking is available in front and to the rear of the River Mill.  Taxi service is also available.  The River Mill is just a free minutes away from downtown Kingston and major hotel changes.

Disabled Access: The River Mill is property wheel chair accessible.  Please notify the River Mill’s staff prior to the event concerning any particular needs for your guests.

Decorating: Guests are welcomed to decorate their tables, bring in centre pieces, flowers, wedding cake and candles into the River Mill.  However, in order to protect our interiors, only stand-alone decorations are permitted in the River Mill.  Decorators, florists and photographers are all welcomed.  Guests cannot tack nor nail anything to the wall or any surface.  Also, no rice, confetti ect..., can be thrown in the River Mill.  Any damage resulting from your event to the River Mill’s carpets and/or furniture will result in additional cleaning charges.

Lost Articles: The River Mill is not responsible for any articles left behind after the event however; we will make it our priority to aid in finding any lost/misplaced items.  Any items found will be held in management’s office until they can be recovered.  Please make arrangements prior to the event on how and when the gifts and decor will be removed.  In regards to gifts, they should be removed following your reception.
